Do you work in an office? Do you work from home? Do you work from your favorite coffee shop? From the article "Will offices still exist in the future?" on MyVenturePad:
Until recently there were two major workspaces for knowledge work: offices and field work. Communication technologies, economic shifts, and changing corporate attitudes have enabled the rapid rise of home workers. In addition, co-working facilities or what I call the cloud workplace are becoming prominent in providing many of advantages to workers of office work without requiring commuting into a central office.
Given the massive shift to distributed work, the question arises of whether centralized office will still have a reason to exist in the future.
Are offices going out of style, or are cloud and office work coexisting? Depending on the company, it can certainly be either one. Offices will be here to stay for the long haul, but I expect that they'll be less commonplace. But personally, I prefer offices -- you can't have office parties without one!
Which do you prefer?
