Time-optimize your email workflow

I linked to an article a few weeks back on my habits as an emailer which turned out to be me being a combiner-filer. So what does my email workflow look like? Everyone has their own take on how to get to the bottom of their inbox. CBS News has a quick list of steps that do work. However, mine differs a little.

Due to the large amount of email I receive, the first thing I do is run a quick scan of the sender and the subject to determine whom I need to reply to right away. Other non-pressing emails will remain in my inbox until I can get to them later on. Essentially, my routine looks something like this:

    1. Scan email for important messages.

    1. Delete unimportant mail.

    1. Reply to the remaining email.

    1. Label and archive.

Of course, your mileage may vary depending on the amount of free time and number of emails received. How do you manage your email?
